Redwood CityRedwood City also is less expensive than Palo Alto and has a wide range of neighborhoods.

The older areas around Edgewood Road, Brewster and Hopkins can resemble Old Palo Alto, with tree-lined streets and a variety of large stately homes or charming bungalows. But prices will be much lower than Palo Alto. A great two-story Spanish home of over 4000 square feet was recently offered for $949,000. This home would have been worth over $2,000,000 in Old Palo Alto, if you could find it. The middle-class neighborhoods like Woodside Terrace still have pleasant ranch-style homes in the low $600's.
Emerald Hills is about to become a separate township. There are many large developer-built homes in the hills in the $750-900,000 range, some with views, and more modest dwellings in the $700,000 range.
