Communities
- Buyers looking for homes in Palo Alto should consider the neighboring communities as well. Within a twenty-minute drive of Palo Alto are other silicon valley communities with homes larger than typical Palo Alto homes, properties with larger lot sizes than typical for Palo Alto homes, country estate properties, and other alternatives to Palo Alto real estate. While the size of a Palo Alto home lot is in the order of 6000 square feet, the average lot size for Los Altos homes is larger. Homes in Redwood City can range from approximately the same size as Palo Alto homes, to properties in the Hills which can be substantially larger. Mountain View homes tend to be less expensive than Palo Alto real estate, but there is a fair degree of variability depending on which Mountain View neighborhood. Buyers relocating to Palo Alto should consider, in addition to Palo Alto real estate, neighborhoods and properties easily accessible to Palo Alto as well.
Like most Palo Alto realtors, I am aware of the importance placed by buyers of real estate on the quality of local schools. Looking at school test scores and other information reveals that buying a home in Palo Alto is not the only way to secure a good education for your children. Many of the nearby communities offer excellent schools as well. In addition, along with the escalation in home prices in Palo Alto real estate and the real estate in communities near Palo Alto has come a shift in demographics. One would expect that school quality will continue to improve in some of the communities with homes somewhat less expensive than Palo Alto homes as time goes on. So if you have very young children, you may find a somewhat less expensive alternative to a Palo Alto home in an area which, by the time your kids are of school age, has excellent schools.
